Just when you think you have the phone that can do it all, a newer model comes out and blows it out of the water.

Smartphones in 2022 are better and more advanced than ever. Here are the top phones that you can consider should you be picking up a new one.

iPhone 13 Pro

Price: From S$1,649

iPhone 13 Pro is undoubtedly one of the best smartphones in 2022. The 13 Pro appears to have a typical 6.1 in Super Retina XDR display at first glance; however, Apple has finally opted to advance the display, with the panel now capable of a super smooth 120Hz refresh rate. In addition, the notch has shrunk by 20%.

When it comes to the cameras, expect larger sensors and faster apertures, which will result in better low-light performance and far more similar quality when switching between the phone's ultrawide (which now includes macro shooting abilities) and a three times telephoto snapper, which will allow you to shoot further than before.

Google Pixel 6 Pro

Price: S$1,299

Google has switched things up with the Pixel 6 Pro, which includes the team's current Tensor silicon, a revamped Android 12 experience, and a whole new design.

The 6 Pro is a big phone with a gorgeous QHD+ curved-edge OLED display that switches to a greater, sharper 120Hz refresh rate for the first time in the series.

Tensor doesn't compare well to the competition in terms of benchmarking, although it has more than the required capacity to handle intensive mobile games and apps in real-world use.

A massive 5003mAh battery also offers some of the best battery performance on a Pixel ever.

While it lacks the high refresh speed display of the 13 Pro, the iPhone 13 still has cutting-edge technologies such as Apple's latest A15 Bionic 5nm CPU and the newest camera capabilities such as Cinematic Mode.

The back camera system sits on a diagonal, partly to accommodate the remarkable sensor-shift OIS (though there is no telephoto sensor). At the same time, the front still sports a gorgeous 6.1 OLED display with a reduced notch.

iOS 15 is a fantastic upgrade to Apple's already-respected mobile operating system, with features like alerts summary ensuring you're not continually distracted by your device.

Samsung Galaxy S22

Price: S$1,178

The Galaxy S22 provides bang for your buck, with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset found in the pricier S22 options. The camera has been improved, with a 50MP rating, and a dedicated telephoto lens that can take photos with a 3x optical zoom.

The screen is also brighter than those of previous Samsung models, which makes it easy to view even on the sunniest of days.

OnePlus 10 Pro

Price: S$1,299

The OnePlus series has always been a great alternative to high-end flagship smartphones, and the latest release, the OnePlus 10 Pro, is no exception. It offers top-of-the-line features at a fraction of the price of other phones in its category.

The design of the phone has improved, and it’s now fingerprint-resistant. The display has increased, at 6.7 inches with QHD resolution, making it an immersive display that you enjoy. The phone’s camera isn’t shabby as well, with a 48MP main camera and 50MP ultrawide camera.

Realme GT2

Price: S$700.39

The GT is on par with phones at double its price except for the camera. The phone is driven by a Snapdragon 888 processor.

The phone's front features a 120Hz Full HD AMOLED display, while the back houses a 5000mAh battery with 65W rapid charging. This device is all about speed, and it does so at a fantastic price.

Red Magic 7

Source: Nubia

Price: S$989

This is the phone for gamers; powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, you can choose from 12GB, 16GB and 18GB of RAM.

The gorgeous 165Hz display outperforms mainstream competitors, making it ideal for gaming, and the battery life is superb, with 65W quick charging.

Nubia's Android launcher isn't for everyone and the camera isn’t fantastic, but the price/performance ratio it achieves and the gaming use it supports are unrivalled.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3

Price: S$1,398

Samsung enhanced every aspect of its already remarkable Galaxy Z Flip foldable, from appearance to performance, and then made it even more affordable!

The Z Flip 3 is a beautiful manifestation of the progress of foldable smartphone innovation and somehow manages to add waterproofing into its architecture.

The Flip 3's battery life and twin cameras could be better. Still, despite flagship-class technology in a breakthrough design, the Flip 3's cost demonstrates that foldable phones can coexist with traditional smartphones without making substantial compromises.

Sony Xperia 1 IV

Source: Sony

Price: S$1,969

The Xperia 1 IV has all of the features we've come to expect from Sony's flagship smartphone line, including a great camera setup and a stunning 4K display complemented by a 120Hz refresh rate.

The back camera configuration requires some effort to get the most out of it. However, it gives you unprecedented control, especially for video capture. The rear cameras support 4K@120fps, SteadyShot with FlawlessEye, Eye AFand Real Time Object Tracking. The zoom camera also now supports stepless continuous optical zoom between 85mm and 125mm.
