Why should you choose the Citi PremierMiles Credit Card?

#1: Citi Miles do not expire

Yes, you heard us. Citi Miles never expire so you will never have to feel rushed to use your miles on things that do not tickle your fancy. As mile chasers, we wholeheartedly appreciate earning and accumulating miles that do not expire as the whole process takes time. This is especially true if you, like us, are gunning for award Business Class or First Class flights to far-flung cities like Paris or London.

#2: Earn more miles on your spending

Besides earning 1.2 Citi Miles per $1 on local spend and 2 Citi Miles per S$1 (mpd) on foreign currency spend, look forward to earning 10 Citi Miles per $1 spent on Kaligo and up to 7 Citi Miles per $1 spent on Agoda

These bonus miles for dedicated travel bookings come as no surprise since the Citi PremierMiles Credit Card since it's already a popular travel credit card. Moreover, these rates are comparable to its close competitor – DBS Altitude – which awards up to 10 mpd on Kaligo bookings and up to 6 mpd on Expedia bookings.

You can also earn miles on rent, condo management fees, school fees, taxes and electricity bills — basically big payments — via Citi PayAll. Take note that Citi PayAll Service Fee applies.

From time to time, Citibank also runs spend promotions that let cardmembers earn miles at an accelerated rate when they register for the promotions and meet the spend requirements.

Another easy way to chalk up miles? Simply renew your Citi PremierMiles membership and pay the $196.20 annual fee (w.e.f. 1 Jan 2024) to snag 10,000 Citi Miles on your card anniversary.

#3: Use your miles in a myriad of ways

The next best thing about Citi Miles is that you have true flexibility in utilising your miles. Log in to your account on the Citi ThankYou Rewards site to instantly redeem for flights or hotel stays from eligible transfer partners with no blackout dates.

You can also transfer your Citi Miles to participating frequent flyer programmes like Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer at a 1:1 ratio. Each transfer comes with a fee of $26.75

At the moment, Citibank is partnering with the following transfer partners:

  • Asia Miles
  • British Airways Executive Club
  • EVA Air Infinity MileageLands
  • Etihad Guest
  • Flying Blue
  • IHG Rewards Club
  • Malaysia Airlines Enrich
  • Qantas Frequent Flyer
  • Qatar Airways Privilege Club
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
  • Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus
  • Turkish Airlines Miles&Smiles

Don’t wish to use your miles on travel? Feel free to turn your miles into things you love, such as Apple products. You may also use Pay with Points Online to redeem statement credits to cover the cost of recent purchases in select categories made with your eligible Citi credit card.

Alternatively, you can also convert your Citi Miles to KrisPay Miles instead to be used for shopping and dining rewards on the Kris+ app. It follows a conversion rate of as low as 4,000 Citi Miles to 3,400 KrisPay miles. Once converted, these KrisPay Miles can subsequently be transferred instantly to your KrisFlyer account* for flight redemptions! ✈️ So it's a win-win situation here.

Or if – for some reason – you don't feel like converting your Citi Miles into frequent flyer miles, you can redeem it for cash rebate. A minimum of 1,650 Citi Miles is required per S$10 cash rebate redemption.

*The whole conversion timeline from Citi Miles to KrisPay Miles to KrisFlyer Miles is only valid for 7 days. Transfers of miles from Kris+ app to the KrisFlyer Account after 7 days will be invalid.

#4: Awesome travel perks

Citi PremierMiles offers cardmembers who love travelling greater peace of mind at no extra charge. Get up to $1 million in travel insurance coverage when you charge your travel tickets to Citi PremierMiles. T&Cs apply. Cardmembers also enjoy two complimentary Priority Pass airport lounge visits per year worldwide.

Key takeaways: Other similar travel credit cards

If you want to consider other travel credit cards, here are alternative options:

DBS Altitude Credit Card

DBS-Altitude-Visa_LF-2019-2026-1024x686-1

The DBS Altitude Credit Card is another crowd favourite, boasting 1.3 mpd on local spend and 2.2 mpd on overseas spend. It used to offer a bonus 3 mpd on eligible online flight and hotel transactions, but that's since been scrapped following its revamp.

However, what it does still reward bonus miles on include dedicated travel and accommodation bookings such as:

  • Up to 10 mpd on selected Kaligo bookings
  • Up to 6 mpd on selected Expedia bookings

Furthermore, DBS Altitude cardholders (specifically Visa version) are entitled to 2 complimentary Priority Pass airport lounges per year. Subsequent entry will be charged at US$32 per pax per visit – so bear this in mind when intending to bring guests along.

Lastly, it also provides up to S$1 million complimentary travel insurance coverage when you charge your full travel fare to the card.

All things considered, the DBS Altitude Credit Card is probably Citi PremierMiles' closest rival in terms of bonus miles earn rates and travel privileges offered – especially for dedicated travel bookings.

Should you get the Citi PremierMiles Credit Card?

At the end of the day... is the Citi PremierMiles Credit Card worth getting for you?

If you have an undying love for all things travel, Citi PremierMiles may just be the right air miles credit card for you. This credit card rewards you on all your travel purchases and day-to-day purchases, with no limit on how many expiry-free miles you can earn.

Although the Citi PremierMiles Card is a travel credit card by nature, it still accrues miles in the form of its Citi rewards point variant – Citi Miles. So do note that you'd still have to convert your Citi Miles into your preferred frequent flyer miles like for instance, Singapore Airlines' KrisFlyer Miles if you want to redeem specific flight privileges.

💡 Fun fact: Citi Miles has a 1:1 conversion ratio with KrisFlyer Miles.

Rest assured, Citi Miles never expire either until you choose to convert them into other frequent flyer miles. This way, you'll won't have to stress over meeting any deadlines when chasing miles.

You also enjoy the ultimate flexibility when it comes to utilising miles. Citi PremierMiles’ travel perks — free airport lounge access, and complimentary travel insurance — are fantastic, too.
