In summary

With up to 2 miles or 5x Rewards points on overseas spend, this air miles card may not offer the best returns on your spending. It does, however, offer cardholders a suite of exclusive privileges, including expedited immigration clearance at the airport. But is all that worth the $662.15 annual fee?

    • For select airports, the primary cardholder must book the Airport VIP Service via the HSBC Infinite Visa Concierge hotline from 3-14 days in advance. One companion sharing the same flight as the primary cardholder can also enjoy this benefit.

    • For Airport Limousine Services, the primary cardholder may invite two companions sharing the same flight to share the ride. This is only applicable for valid flights leaving from Changi Airport in Singapore.

Detailed review

The annual fee for the HSBC Visa Infinite card is $662.15 and is strictly non-waivable. Unlike some other cards which may waive your fee when you spend above a certain amount, this premium card offers no such benefits. There is also no sign-up bonus to speak of, though that may be because HSBC is temporarily pausing applications for the card.

The HSBC Visa Infinite card also has a higher-than-usual minimum income requirement, at $120,000 per annum for Singapore citizens, Permanent Residents and foreigners. This is 4 times the standard required income for residents, and as such there is no provision for fixed deposit collaterals for customers who wish to apply but do not meet the requirements.

Cash advances and quasi-cash transactions:

  • A cash advance typically allows you to withdraw up to 90% of your credit limit for instant cash. Though this sounds undeniably convenient, many credit card users avoid using cash advances due to the steep fees involved. For HSBC cardholders, that works out to be 8% of the amount withdrawn, or $15, whichever is higher.

  • HSBC cardholders can draw cash advances at over 900,000 Visa/Plus and Mastercard/Cirrus ATMs in more than 120 countries or regions.

  • Quasi-cash transactions are transactions that are not cash advances but treated like one. This means they will also incur the 8% charge on the amount withdrawn, or $15, whichever is greater. Some transactions defined as quasi-cash transactions by HSBC are money orders, betting or lottery tickets, traveller cheques and cryptocurrency transactions.

Benefits and perks

Earn rewards on all spend

Since the HSBC Visa Infinite card is a flat-rate air miles card and not a category-based card, you’ll be able to earn rewards on all spend. You’ll get 1 mile or 2.5 Reward points for local spend and 2 miles or 5x Reward points for overseas spend. Once you have the requisite available Reward points, you’ll be able to use the HSBC app to redeem rewards, offset purchases and more.

Exclusive travel privileges

Though HSBC’s earn rates for this premium card fall short of being amazing, the exclusive travel privileges that come with the territory are nothing to sneeze at. Since travelling can be an exhausting affair, HSBC has devised a whole array of benefits to pamper you. From complimentary airport lounge visits, expedited immigration clearance and being shuttled around in your own limousine, these benefits will make you feel like a VIP. Plus, you can share these benefits with supplementary cardholders too—so you can upgrade travels for the whole family.

Flexible ways to redeem Reward points

As you rack up Reward points from local and overseas spending, you’ll eventually have the requisite points for redeeming your desired rewards. HSBC has made this process effortless with the HSBC app, which you can use to offset flights, hotel and car rental bookings—as well as redeem miles or the latest gadgets. The possibilities are endless and all it takes is a few taps of your fingers.

Drawbacks and considerations

High annual fee

At $662.15, the HSBC Visa Infinite card’s annual fees are on the higher side, making it on par or even greater than certain American Express travel cards. Unlike some cards which may reward cardholders who spend above a certain threshold by offering annual fee waivers, HSBC has a strictly non-waiver policy for the card. This may deter potential cardholders who consider the fees too steep for their liking.

Mid earn rates

The HSBC Visa Infinite cards are best described as competitive, but not all that great. With 1 mile or 2.5x Reward points for local spend and 2 miles or 5x Reward points for overseas spend, this puts the card’s earn rate below that of the DBS Altitude Visa Signature Card. Though significantly more affordable with an annual fee of $196.20, this entry-level card has a much better earn rate, awarding 1.3 miles for local spend and 2.2 miles for overseas spend.

Does that make the DBS Altitude Visa Signature card the superior choice? That depends on whether you think the exclusive travel privileges are worth slightly lower earn rates and a higher price tag.

Downgraded complimentary insurance

Cardholders who charge the full cost of their air tickets to their HSBC Visa Infinite cards enjoy complimentary comprehensive insurance coverage. Starting from 1 April 2025, however, coverage for Accidental Death/Total Disablement (Public Conveyance) has been downgraded from $2.75M to $1M for cardholders. Coverage for the cardholder’s family members has also been cut from $1.365M to $500,000. Though nobody hopes to have to ever utilise this benefit, this is still a significant reduction in the value offered by the HSBC Visa Infinite card.

Travel insurance coverage is provided by MSIG Insurance. Review the full insurance policy terms on HSBC’s website to ensure that the policy meets your needs.

Is this the right card for you?
