Why Trust SingSaver

The UOB One Credit Card is a cashback workhorse that rewards consistent spenders with some of the highest guaranteed returns in the market. Cardholders can earn up to 15% cashback when they hit the required quarterly spend tiers, with bonus cashback on everyday essentials such as Grab, Shopee, Dairy Farm Group merchants, SimplyGo, and utilities. Cashback is tiered based on monthly spend of S$500, S$1,000, or S$2,000, making it most rewarding for those with predictable expenses.

As UOB’s flagship cashback card, it has evolved by broadening its bonus merchant list and everyday categories. While the tiered system requires discipline to maximise, it remains a top choice for cashback seekers who value certainty and reliable returns.

Key highlights:

  • Earn up to 15% cashback when meeting the highest quarterly spend tier (S$2,000 per month for 3 consecutive months).

  • Bonus cashback on everyday essentials from Grab, Shopee, Dairy Farm merchants (e.g. Cold Storage, Giant), SimplyGo (public transport), and utilities.

  • Existing customers with cards issued before 1st July 2025 can enjoy enhanced 2.67% and 4.67% on all grocery spend upon qualifying for S$100 or S$200 quarterly cashback, with the annual cashback cap increased to S$2,240 from S$2,000.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Earn up to 15% cashback on everyday essentials like Grab, Shopee, Dairy Farm merchants, SimplyGo, and utilities

  • Wide bonus coverage across groceries, transport, food delivery, and online shopping

  • High annual cashback potential, capped at S$2,000 per year under the top spend tier

  • Cashback credited quarterly, offering predictable and guaranteed returns

  • Annual fee waiver available with S$12,000 annual spend (first year usually waived)

  • Supplementary cards share the same cashback benefits

Cons

  • Requires consistent monthly spend (S$500, S$1,000, or S$2,000 for 3 consecutive months) to unlock higher cashback tiers

  • Missed months reduce overall cashback, making it less flexible for irregular spenders

  • Cashback cap applies per quarter, limiting upside for very high spenders

  • Few lifestyle perks — no lounge access, travel insurance, or dining privileges beyond cashback

SingSaver’s take

The UOB One Credit Card remains one of the most reliable cashback options in Singapore, rewarding disciplined spenders with up to 15% cashback on daily essentials like groceries, transport, and utilities. Its tiered structure offers certainty of returns, provided you can consistently hit the required spend levels.

That said, the quarterly rebate system and spend requirements mean it works best for structured spenders rather than casual card users. With limited lifestyle perks, those who want flexibility or travel benefits may prefer alternatives like the HSBC Live+ or Citi Cash Back+. But for households and individuals with predictable expenses, the UOB One is a proven cashback workhorse.

History and evolution

The UOB One Credit Card has long been UOB’s flagship cashback product, originally launched to reward cardholders for consistent, predictable spending with quarterly rebates. Over time, UOB has expanded the scope of its bonus categories to include everyday essentials like transport, groceries, food delivery, and utilities, ensuring the card remains competitive in a crowded cashback market. Its tiered structure has stayed the same, but the breadth of merchants and bonus categories has grown to match evolving consumer habits.

Things to note

  • Cashback is capped quarterly and tied to spend tiers — you must spend S$600, S$1,000, or S$2,000 monthly for 3 consecutive months to unlock meaningful rebates.

  • Missing the minimum spend in any given month reduces the effective cashback significantly.

  • Bonus categories are fixed and limited; spending outside these merchants earns only the base rate.

  • Foreign currency transactions are subject to a 3.25% fee and do not enjoy special bonus earn rates.

How do UOB One Credit Card fees work

  • Annual fee: S$196.20 (inclusive of GST), typically waived in the first year. Subsequent fee waivers are available with S$12,000 annual spend.

  • Supplementary card fee: Free for the first card, S$98.10 for subsequent cards.

How do UOB One Credit Card rewards work

Cashback is credited as a quarterly rebate, provided you hit the required monthly spend tiers of S$600, S$1,000 or S$2,000. Cardholders can earn up to 10% cashback on bonus categories like Grab, Shopee, Dairy Farm merchants, SimplyGo, and utilities.

All other eligible spend earns up to 3.33% cashback, depending on the spend tier achieved. Cashback is capped at S$500 per quarter (S$2,000 annually for new cardholders and S$2,240 for existing cardholders before 1 July 2025) under the top spend tier.

Rewards are structured purely as cashback — no points pooling or flexible transfer to miles. This makes it best for cardholders who value simplicity and guaranteed savings rather than travel rewards.

Earn rates

Earn rates at a glance

  • Local spend: Base cashback of 0.3% to 3.33%, depending on whether you meet the monthly spend tiers of S$600, S$1,000, or S$2,000 for three consecutive months.

  • Bonus cashback: Earn up to 10% cashback on selected everyday categories, including Grab, Shopee, Dairy Farm merchants (e.g. Cold Storage, Giant), SimplyGo (Bus/MRT), and utilities.

  • Foreign currency spend: Treated as general spend, earning only the base rate of up to 3.33% cashback. No additional bonus applies.

  • Caps: Maximum cashback of S$500 per quarter (S$2,000 annually, boosted to S$2,240 for existing cardholders) under the highest tier.

The UOB One card is most rewarding for those with stable, predictable monthly expenses who can consistently meet spend thresholds. The trade-off is that missing a month reduces overall rebates, and foreign currency spend earns only at the base level.

The UOB One Card offers one of the highest cashback rates in Singapore, but its strict quarterly spend requirements and merchant-specific bonuses make it less flexible than flat-rate or broad-category competitors.

Foreign currency fees

UOB levies a 3.25% administrative fee on all Visa transactions conducted in foreign currencies. With a maximum cashback accrual of 3.33% on foreign transactions, this effectively offsets the incurred fees. However, those who do not meet the minimum spending requirement will find that the base 0.3% cashback earned does not offset the fees.

Cashback redemption

Features

Cashback is automatically credited to your account every quarter as long as you have met the minimum spending requirement. Unlike other UOB credit cards that earn UNI$, the UOB One Card offers straight cashback, which means that points pooling and miles conversion are not available.

Bonus transactions

Bonus cashback is awarded when you spend on groceries, dining, transport, and shopping at selected merchants. However, a minimum monthly spending of S$600, S$1,000 or S$2,000 is required to unlock bonus cashback of up to 8.33% and 10% respectively.

Excluded transaction categories

Certain spend types will not earn any points at all. This includes:

  • Wire transfers

  • Insurance premiums

  • Stored value top-ups

  • Tax payments

  • Bills and bonds payments

When in doubt, always check UOB’s list of exclusions.

How points are credited

  • Credit timeframe: Cashback is credited on a quarterly basis.

  • Calculation method: Transactions are awarded the base cashback rate of 0.3%, with the bonus rate applying once you hit the minimum spend tiers.

  • Tiers: You have to spend at least S$1,000 and S$2,000 respectively to qualify for Tiers 2 and 3 cashback. For instance, if you spent S$700 in a calendar month, this amount will be rounded down to S$600 and your bonus cashback will be awarded based on Tier 1 rates.

Points accumulation examples

Let’s compare a simple case:

  • Spend S$700 at qualifying merchants for three consecutive months (bonus category, ≥ S$600 monthly spend).

    • Rounded down to S$600 →.You earn S$60 cashback for the quarter.

  • Spend S$1,500 at qualifying merchants for three consecutive months (bonus category, ≥ S$1,000 monthly spend).

    • Rounded down to S$1,000 → You earn S$100 cashback for the quarter.

Other benefits

Fuel savings

With the UOB One Card, you can enjoy substantial year-round fuel savings across major petrol stations. Get up to 21.15% off at Shell and as much as 22.66% off at SPC when paired with the SPC&U Card. On top of that, cardholders can unlock an instant 15% discount on petrol at SPC, plus an additional 5% savings on every S$51 charged to the card in a single transaction, making it one of the most rewarding cards for drivers.

UOB payment facility

With the UOB Payment Facility, you can use your UOB One Credit Card to cover everyday expenses like monthly bills, rent, taxes, or even one-off large purchases, all for a low one-time administrative fee. Every dollar approved earns UNI$2.5 for every S$5 (equivalent to 1 mile per S$1), letting you turn routine payments into rewards and miles for future redemptions.

Higher interest rates with UOB One Account

When you spend a minimum of S$500 with your UOB One Credit Card each month and perform at least three GIRO transactions or credit your salary to your account, you can enjoy bonus interest rates. This goes up to as much as 5.3% on your first S$100,000.

Should you get the UOB One Credit Card?

In conclusion, the UOB One Credit Card is a “worth it if you’re disciplined” option, thanks to its high cashback potential of up to 15% on daily essentials, predictable quarterly rebates, and wide merchant coverage. It works best for spenders who can consistently hit the required monthly tiers of S$500, S$1,000, or S$2,000 across three months, ensuring maximum returns. If your spending is irregular or falls outside the listed bonus categories, however, a flat-rate cashback or general miles card may offer better flexibility and value.
