As we turn a year old, Co-Founder and Managing Director Rohith Murthy reflects on SingSaver.com.sg’s tremendous growth and reveals the inspiration behind the business.
Time sure does fly! And what an incredible journey this has been.
In the past 12 months, we’ve worked with all banks to provide exclusive deals for our users, and helped more than 1.3 million Singaporeans find the right credit card or personal loan. These efforts have resulted in up to S$1,500 in savings for each person. Our financial literacy stories inspired over a quarter of a million readers to make better financial decisions and share their own tips on our Facebook page. We’ve reached hundreds of thousands more through our own TV commercial, which went on air last month.
And we’ve only started scratching the surface.
I receive a lot of questions around why I started SingSaver.com.sg and what challenges we overcame to be where we are today. Let me share.
As a former banker for over a decade, I had the firsthand opportunity to see how banks design and advertise financial products. I have also witnessed friends and relatives make poor financial decisions because they didn’t completely understand how to use the financial product they just received.
Coming home to Singapore after four years in Europe made me understand the insurmountable task of comparing all the options available to consumers. I was going to be a father soon and I had a checklist of financial products I wanted for my young family. With my background in finance, I thought finding the right credit card or insurance policy would be easy. I was so wrong!
Then I realised – if I felt overwhelmed after sifting through hundreds of credit cards in Singapore, millions of Singaporeans are probably just as confused.
And that’s how SingSaver.com.sg was born!
The first few months were enlightening and humbling. Our small team read hundreds of product brochures and mystery shopped at all banks in Singapore to gain firsthand experience of the whole customer journey. Because of this, we received overwhelming feedback and experienced incredible daily growth when our website went live.
Knowing that we make a real impact on Singaporeans’ lives keeps me going every single day.
As we turn one year, I would like to thank my team for putting up with me and pushing themselves to make our mission a reality. I would like to thank all the banks for working with us to develop better products and deals that help people save more money.
Last but not the least, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to all SingSaver.com.sg users. Your feedback is the compass that guides our journey and helps us serve you better everyday. I look forward to more years of creating and promoting financial awareness together.
