One of the main draws of travel insurance is that you can make claims when you face trip disruptions, such as an unfortunate trip cancellation due to medical reasons, flight delays, or baggage loss.
Fortunately, Allianz Travel Hero offers decent coverage for trip disruptions as well.
If you have to cancel or interrupt your trip for any valid reason, you’re able to claim up to S$15,000 for the travel expenses you’ve already incurred. This also applies if you or your travel buddy contracts COVID-19. If your flight is delayed for at least 6 hours, you can claim up to S$3,000, with a daily receipt limit of S$400.
This also applies to baggage delays of more than 6 hours, where you are covered up to S$3,000.
If you happen to lose your baggage, get it stolen or have it damaged, you are able to claim up to S$7,000, with a sublimit of S$1,000 for all high-value items. If you lose your personal money or travel documents, you will be reimbursed up to S$500 and S$8,000 respectively.
Going on a road trip with a rental car? This plan offers up to S$3,000 for rental vehicle excess, but do note that the coverage is only applicable to Asia-Pacific and Worldwide regions. So if you’re heading to an ASEAN country, this coverage will not be extended to you.
Overall, for the price you're paying for, the coverage you're getting out of the plan is honestly quite value-for-money.

Whether or not you should purchase an annual plan or not depends on how frequently you travel. A general rule of thumb is that you should be travelling at least 6-7 times in a year before an annual plan is worth your money.
Do remember to compare the prices beforehand. While it could potentially save you money, it can also save you a great deal of hassle without having to purchase a single trip plan before every trip you embark on.
Should I buy Allianz Travel Hero? Pros and cons
Pros
|
Cons
|
High coverage for trip disruptions
|
Not covered for pre-existing conditions
|
Affordable premiums
|
No plan tiers for varying coverage levels (dependent on travel destination)
|
Coverage inclusive of COVID-19
|
Allianz Travel Hero is a great no-frills travel insurance policy that can accommodate your travel needs. They have decent coverage, especially for trip disruptions, and are generally affordable as well.
The great thing about it is that COVID-19 is inclusive in the base plans, so you won’t have to worry about opting for additional add-ons in order to be covered for it.
However, because the product doesn’t offer different plan tiers to choose from, and instead the coverage varies based on where you’re travelling to, it might not be ideal if you value coverage customisibility. With no available add-ons as well, you are unable to opt for special add-on coverages according to your travel needs.
But on the flip side, this could make for a great hassle-free travel insurance plan ideal for travellers who do not like to compare plan tiers and coverage levels to decide which plan is best for them.
Beyond that, it also doesn’t offer coverage for pre-existing conditions. So if you do suffer from pre-existing medical conditions, injuries and illnesses, you won’t be able to claim for it if it does act up when you’re abroad.
Overall, it makes for a good fuss-free plan that is simple and convenient. It’s also highly value-for-money because of its decent coverages and affordability. Moreover, if you’re travelling as a family, you can purchase their family plan as well to opt for group coverage limits.
