Ergo TravelProtect travel insurance offers great coverage at low premiums. Though it doesn’t offer COVID-19 coverage, they make up for it with other forms of coverage including sports-related injuries, illnesses relating to pregnancy and even pet care.

I don't know about you, but ever since the festive period, there has been nothing but travelling on my mind. But after picking a travel destination, the next headache comes when you’re choosing a travel insurance plan to purchase.

Ergo TravelProtect ranks high on the list because of its competitive pricing. It offers 3 policy tiers — Essential, Standard and Deluxe so you can select the tier that offers the best coverage for your needs. They also offer a Basic plan, though it’s only available for selected travel destinations in ASEAN.

At low premiums, the coverage that you’re getting is pretty decent. However, one thing to note is that they do not offer COVID-19 coverage. This travel insurance is also ideal for families travelling together as they offer family plans too.

With all these in mind, is Ergo TravelProtect going to be your go-to travel insurance? Here’s everything you need to know about the plan.

Product summary

Medical expenses incurred overseas or in Singapore

In the event you fall sick during your trip, any medical expenses you incur will be covered by Ergo TravelProtect, depending on the plan type you choose. If you opt for the Deluxe plan, you are insured up to S$1,000,000 for insured persons under 70 years old. For those above 70, the coverage offered is up to S$200,000.

Unlike some other travel insurance plans that don’t offer coverage for medical expenses in Singapore post-trip, Ergo TravelProtect does. You can enjoy up to S$50,000 of coverage for those below 70 years of age. This also included dental treatments due to accidents.

Emergency medical evacuation and medical repatriation

If any of the insured is overseas and results in bodily injury or sickness that is medically appropriate to move them to another location to receive medical treatment, the mode of evacuation will be covered, with no limits on the coverage for all plans, except the Basic plan that is only insured up to S$20,000.

In the event of death, repatriation of mortal remains and funeral expenses overseas will also be covered.

Sports coverage

Ergo offers full adventure activity coverage that includes any accidents while:

  • Bungee jumping
  • Paragliding
  • Skydiving
  • Jet skiing
  • Hot air ballooning

Ergo provides a 24/7 hotline whenever you require assistance. Before your trip, their hotline will give you Visa, inoculation, weather and exchange rate information. They will also be available to assist you with any emergencies or general enquiries regarding lost passports, medical emergencies, claims submissions and others.

Their 24/7 hotline is +65 6238 9909.

Ergo offers home protection if your home contents get stolen or are damaged because of a fire while you’re away on holiday. Coverage goes up to S$5,000. This includes household furniture and furnishing, clothing and personal effects.

Rental vehicle excess and return

In cases of a road accident, while you’re overseas, you can get up to S$1,000 coverage for car rental excess.

Ergo TravelProtect Basic

If you want a no-frills plan that offers basic coverage, you can opt for the Basic Plan, but only if you’re travelling to Malaysia, Bintan and Batam. If you’re going to these places, chances are you won’t need that much coverage since you’re only going to be there for a couple of days.

Overseas medical expenses are covered up to S$25,000, while medical expenses incurred in Singapore post-trip are up to S$1,000 coverage. If your baggage is lost, you can claim up to S$1,000 and up to S$250 per single article limit. However, do note that you’re not covered for any trip cancellation or postponement.

Prices are also not stated online, so be sure to give Ergo a call to enquire.

Ergo TravelProtect Essential

The Essential plan also offers basic coverage, though it is definitely a tier up from the Basic Plan. Covering all travel destinations, the Essential plan is the plan for you if you just need some form of decent coverage when you’re abroad for a peace of mind.

Some of the key coverages include medical expenses overseas and in Singapore post-trip of up to S$200,000 and S$10,000, respectively, trip cancellation of up to S$10,000 and loss of baggage of up to S$3,000, with a single article limit of S$500. There is also unlimited coverage for emergency medical evacuation and medical repatriation, and emergency dental treatment up to S$1,000 for the Essential plan onwards.

If you’re an adrenaline junkie, there’s also a sports equipment protector of up to S$2,000 (that applies to all plans) and an adventure activity cover.

Ergo TravelProtect Standard

The Standard plan is ideal for those who want a little more coverage than the Essential plan. With just a small top-up in premiums, you’ll be getting much more coverage that includes up to S$500,000 in overseas medical expenses, S$25,000 for medical expenses incurred in Singapore.

For unexpected events before or during your trip, your expenses will be covered up to S13,000 for any trip cancellation, S$1,000 for trip postponement and up to S$13,000 for trip curtailment overseas. Any loss of baggage will allow you to make a claim of up to S$5,000, with a single article limit of S$500.

Ergo TravelProtect Deluxe

If you’re seeking the most comprehensive coverage, then the Ergo TravelProtect Deluxe is the one for you.

It offers up to S$1,000,000 in overseas medical expenses and S$50,000 in claims for medical expenses incurred in Singapore after you return home. If you’re hospitalised, there is also a hospital allowance of up to $500 per day, up to S$20,000 (S$200 for each continuous 24-hour period).

You can rest assured knowing that your trip is covered up to S$15,000 if it needs to be cancelled, up to S$2,000 for trip postponement and up to S$15,000 for any trip curtailments. If your baggage is missing, you can claim up to S$8,000, with a single article limit of S$500.
