For a budget carrier, Scoot Travel Insurance offers unexpectedly robust coverage. Here’s a deep dive into what exactly you’ll get with Scootsurance.
You know how we’re always nagging you not to leave purchasing your travel insurance until the last minute, in case you choose the wrong plan or end up underinsured because you’re in a rush?
And that goes double for airline travel insurance that tries to slide itself in somewhere during the ticket booking process?
We’re gonna make an exception.
Going with Scootsurance because you're having a “heads empty, no thoughts” day wouldn’t actually be the worst thing in the world.
That’s not to say Scootsurance is the perfect travel plan for everyone (because there’s simply no such thing), but to give credit where it’s due, Scootsurance is actually a rather decent travel insurance plan.
Let’s have a closer look at what Scootsurance has to offer.

We’ve reviewed how much Scoot travel insurance plans cost for a single adult traveller. Here’s what we found out.
- For a 7-day trip in Southeast Asia and Asia-Pacific, premiums are between S$16 and S$44.43.
- For a 7-day trip in Europe, premiums cost between S$33.33 to S$92.56.
It seems that Scootsurance is priced according to two regions for now – within Asia Pacific, and outside Asia Pacific. In any case, you can only purchase this plan for destinations that Scoot covers.
Benefits: Is Scoot travel insurance good?
Overseas medical and hospitalisation benefits
Scootsurance offers up to S$70,000 in overseas medical expenses, which isn’t the highest coverage. But that’s not all that you’ll get.
One of the pros of this travel insurance is that you’ll also be covered for up to S$50,000 in emergency dental expenses due to accident; up to S$4,000 in overseas hospital allowance (S$200/day); and up to S$5,000 for follow-up treatment back in Singapore.
You’ll get the same level of medical coverage for COVID-19, along with up to S$1,000 for overseas hospitalisation (S$50/day) and up to S$1,000 for overseas quarantine (S$100/day).
Note that these benefits only apply for Return plans. One-way plans from Scoot only have up to S$1,000 for overseas hospitalisation (S$50/day) due to COVID-19.
Emergency evacuation and personal accident benefits
Scootsurance provides emergency evacuation and repatriation coverage, but only for Return plans. However, both Return and One-way plans come with S$100,000 in personal accident benefits.
Return plans from Scoot travel insurance also include access to round-the-clock emergency medical and travel claim assistance via a dedicated contact number, which would be highly helpful when beset by panic or fear.
Travel inconvenience
The travel insurance coverage offered for cancelling your trip or cutting short your holiday is capped at S$1,000 which is in line with Scoot’s budget carrier status. However, one of the cons here is that you may not have much coverage left for accommodations and other unused bookings.
As for loss or damage to personal belongings, you will receive up to S$2,000 in benefits, with S$200 per-item sublimit, and S$500 in total for valuables.
KrisFlyer members-only benefits
Scootsurance also offers extra perks to KrisFlyer members, the most notable of which is the additional S$50,0000 in personal accident benefits (applies to both Return and One-way plans).
Other KrisFlyer insurance perks – reserved for Scoot’s Return plans only, this time – include a S$1,000 claim limit for fraudulent credit card use; up to S$1,000 hospital income in Singapore (S$100/day) and up to S$300 for legal assistance while overseas.

Scoot travel insurance pros and cons
Pros
|
Cons
|
Well-rounded plan that should suit most leisure travellers, with extras for KrisFlyer members
|
No cover for pre-existing conditions
|
Coverage and benefit levels tuned toward budget flyers
|
One-way plan is severely lacking in benefits
|
Includes COVID-19 cover, and adventurous sports activities
|
At the end of the day, Scootsurance is a well-rounded travel insurance plan that should fit the needs of most leisure travellers. Besides the essentials, it also bundles in COVID-19 cover and adventurous sports activities benefits.
While it doesn't have the highest coverage levels, probably because it is tuned to budget flyers and Scoot’s flight routes, that pays off in the form of lower premiums. The only drawbacks are that pre-existing conditions are excluded from cover, and also, the One-way plan is as barebones as you can get. Also, remember to review the claim limits to determine if Scoot meets your coverage needs.

Detailed review of the best travel insurance in Scoot
Scoot travel insurance offers two primary plans: Return and One-way trips. Each plan is tailored to meet the diverse needs of travellers, ensuring you have the appropriate coverage for your journey. Here are detailed reviews of the plan to help you choose the best protection for your travels:
Return trip
The Return trip plan provides extensive benefits, including up to S$700,000 in overseas medical expenses, ensuring you have access to quality medical care in case of emergencies. It also covers emergency evacuation, repatriation and travel assistance, providing peace of mind during unforeseen events. For personal accidents, the plan offers coverage up to S$100,000, along with a generous S$500,000 in personal liability.
If you need travel insurance with trip cancellation, this plan can provide you with up to S$1,000 claim limits for curtailments. At the same time, it covers you for up to S$2,000 for lost or damaged baggage. Additionally, it covers identification documents and personal cash, which are critical in case of theft or loss. If you need adventure sports travel insurance, Scoot includes coverage for activities like zip-lining, skydiving and scuba diving.
One of the standout features for KrisFlyer members is the added benefits, such as increased personal accident benefits, hospital income in Singapore, and coverage for fraudulent credit card usage. These perks enhance the overall value of the Return trip plan, making it a robust choice for those seeking comprehensive travel insurance.
One-way trip
While the One-way trip plan offers essential protection, it is more limited compared to the Return trip plan. It includes S$100,000 in personal accident benefits and covers adventurous sports, ensuring you are protected during high-risk activities. However, it does not provide coverage for overseas medical expenses, emergency evacuation, or travel assistance, which might be a drawback for some travellers.
This insurance plan from Scoot offers a S$2,000 claim limit for loss or damage to baggage and up to S$1,000 for identification documents, ensuring your belongings and important papers are safeguarded. Additionally, it includes up to S$300 for personal cash, providing some financial security during your travels.
KrisFlyer members benefit from increased personal accident benefits and additional payout for accidental death and permanent disablement. While the One-way trip plan is not as comprehensive as the Return trip plan, it still provides essential coverage for travellers embarking on one-way journeys.
