Standout Benefit: Credit Card Fraud and Credit Card Liability Protector

InsureTravel stands out for its credit card coverage. It has two benefits for credit cards: Credit Card Indemnity and Credit Card Liability Protector.

Credit Card Indemnity:

When we travel and make payments using our credit cards, we risk having our credit cards cloned by thieves and fraudulent transactions charged to our cards. InsureTravel’s ‘Credit Card Indemnity’ benefit will help you cover some of the financial loss if this happens.

COVID-19 Coverage Under InsureTravel

InsureTravel has built-in COVID-19 coverage. You don't need to add it separately.

Compared to cheaper travel insurance, its COVID-19 benefits are extensive. If you want comprehensive protection related to COVID-19 on your trip, InsureTravel is a great pick.

Here are the COVID-19 benefits it includes:

  • Trip cancellation/postponement
  • Medical expenses during your trip
  • Emergency medical evacuation/repatriation
  • Overseas hospital daily allowance
  • Overseas quarantine daily allowance
  • Trip curtailment
  • Get well benefit
  • Bereavement benefit

Exclusions

InsureTravel does not cover pre-existing medical conditions. If you have an ongoing health issue, it won't pay for treatment if that flares up on your trip. You need a plan like Tiq Travel Insurance that covers pre-existing conditions.

InsureTravel also has limits on sports coverage. It won't cover you for professional or income-earning sports/games. But leisure activities like scuba diving and hiking are covered, as long as they're conducted by licensed organisers and under the supervision of qualified instructors.

Additionally, all airborne activities are excluded. The plan won’t cover things like skydiving and hot air ballooning.

Claims Process

If you need to claim under your InsureTravel policy, the process involves filling out a claim form. You can get the form on their website. It's important to notify the insurer of any claims immediately. All claims must be reported no later than 31 days after your policy expires.

UOB InsureTravel vs UOB Complimentary Travel Insurance: What's the Difference?

UOB offers free travel insurance if you pay for your entire travel fare with a UOB credit card. The UOB cards that are eligible for this perk are:

  • UOB One Credit Card
  • UOB EVOL Card
  • UOB Absolute Cashback American Express Card
  • UOB Visa Signature
  • UOB PRVI Miles American Express
  • UOB PRVI Miles World Mastercard
  • UOB PRVI Miles Visa
  • KrisFlyer UOB Credit Card
  • KrisFlyer UOB Debit Card

After making payment for your travel tickets, enroll in the complimentary UOB travel insurance using their online form.

So, how does the complimentary travel insurance stack up against the paid version - InsureTravel?

The free cover is quite basic, which makes sense since it's free. UOB complimentary travel insurance has only two benefits:

  1. Personal Accident
  2. Emergency Medical Evacuation/Repatriation.

Unlike InsureTravel, the free travel insurance won't cover you for flight delays, trip cancellation, medical expenses, loss of baggage and baggage delay, credit card indemnity, and more.

If you want better protection, you may still want to purchase a policy like InsureTravel.

Nonetheless, it's worth signing up for the free travel insurance for the extra protection if you used an eligible UOB card to pay for your trip.
