  • Bronze: S$44

Starr TraveLead Travel Insurance is a highly customisable travel insurance plan that gives you great control over the type of coverage you want on your overseas trip.

Medical and personal accident coverage make up the base layer, on top of which you can choose to add trip coverage and/or baggage coverage. Furthermore, there are also three tiers of benefits offered, so you can choose (and pay for) an appropriate level of assurance.

In particular, this plan provides up to S$100,000 coverage for COVID-19-related medical expenses (from an overall medical benefit of up to S$1m). If you need to cancel or cut short your trip due to COVID-19, you can claim S$600 (Silver plan) or S$1,000 (Gold plan) in benefits.

AXA SmartTraveller Travel Insurance

COVID-19 benefits:

  • Up to S$150,000 for medical expenses
  • Up to S$2,000 (S$100/day) for overseas hospitalisation allowance

  • Up to S$1,000 for trip postponement

Premiums (single traveller, single trip, 10-day duration):

  • Comprehensive: S$96.42
  • Essential: S$69.45

AXA SmartTraveller Travel Insurance offers up to S$150,000 coverage for COVID-19-related medical expenses, which is quite a bit higher than in other insurance plans. And if you need to be warded in a hospital while overseas, you’ll receive a daily allowance of S$100 per day (up to S$2,000).

In addition, this plan also offers benefits for pandemic-caused cancellation, postponement or curtailment of your trip, with each situation having a separate claims limit.

Taken as a whole, AXA SmartTraveller offers you up to S$600,000 coverage in medical expenses, up to S$700,000 for personal accidents, and up to almost S$70,000 in travel inconveniences, including baggage and personal belongings.

The plan is also notable for including coverage for scuba diving, hiking and white water rafting by default; you’d usually have to purchase additional cover for these.

AXA Wanderlust Travel Insurance

COVID-19 benefits:

  • Up to S$70,000 for medical expenses
  • Up to S$3,000 (S$50/day) for overseas hospitalisation allowance
  • Up to S$1,500 for trip cancellation
  • Up to S$800 for trip postponement

Premiums (single traveller, single trip, 10-day duration):

  • Pro: S$91.27
  • Easy: S$74.39
  • Lite: S$38.36

AXA Wanderlust Travel Insurance offers a similarly comprehensive suite of travel insurance and COVID-19 benefits as its cousin plan above. However, there are a few differences to take note of.

For starters, COVID-19 benefit for medical expenses is capped at S$70,000, which is a good bit lower here. Overseas hospitalisation allowance is also lower at S$50 per day, but has a higher overall limit of S$3,000, which makes it suitable for longer stays.

Benefits for COVID-19-induced travel changes and cancellations are also slightly lower, at up to S$1,500 for cancellations and/or curtailment, and S$800 for postponement.

On the whole, AXA Wanderlust gives you up to S$300,000 worth of coverage for medical expenses, and a personal accident benefit of S$500,000.

It also offers extensive travel inconveniences cover — in addition to the usual cancellations and delays, everything from missed connections to hijacking and collapse of travel agency is also included.

MSIG TravelEasy Insurance

COVID-19 benefits:

  • Up to S$200,000 for medical expenses
  • Up to S$200,000 for emergency evacuation and/or repatriation
  • Up to S$3,000 for travel cancellation and/or postponement

Premiums (single traveller, single trip, 10-day duration):

  • Premier: S$111
  • Elite: S$82.80
  • Standard: S$61.80

MSIG TravelEasy Insurance provides up to S$1m in medical coverage during overseas travel, of which up to S$200,000 can be applied to medical bills incurred because of  COVID-19.

These same benefits and limits also apply for emergency evacuation and/or repatriation.

Under this plan, travel cancellation and/or postponement due to COVID-19 is also covered,  up to a maximum of S$3,000. However, there is a 14-day waiting period for this specific benefit, hence it would be best to purchase this plan early if you’re thinking of doing so.

There are three tiers for you to choose from. Some benefits are only available to the two higher plans, Premier and Elite, but the Standard plan can also be a good option for travellers with basic needs.

AIG Travel Guard Direct Travel Insurance

COVID-19 benefits:

  • Up to S$250,000 for medical expenses
  • Up to S$150,000 for emergency evacuation and/or repatriation
  • Up to S$7,500 for travel cancellation or curtailment
  • Up to S$100/day, maximum 14 days for overseas quarantine allowance

Premiums (single traveller, single trip, 10-day duration):

  • Supreme: S$197
  • Enhanced: S$134
  • Standard: S$115
  • Basic: S$90

AIG Travel Guard Direct is a highly comprehensive travel insurance plan that also has some of the highest claims limits available. The plan has long been a solid option for travellers looking for higher-than-usual coverage, and now comes with COVID-19 benefits as well.

True to form, the plan offers among the most robust COVID-19 insurance coverage — up to S$250,00 for medical expenses, up to S$150,00 for emergency evacuation and/or repatriation and up to S$7,500 for travel cancellation or curtailment.

Also included is an overseas quarantine benefit, which pays you an allowance of S$100 per day for up to 14 days.

AIG Travel Guard Direct may have a suite of attractive benefits, but it is pricier than its counterparts — especially at the lower-tier plans. Travellers with more basic needs might be better served elsewhere, but those with higher requirements are likely to be satisfied.

FWD Travel Insurance

COVID-19 benefits:

  • Up to S$200,000 for medical expenses
  • Up to S$200,000 for emergency evacuation and/or repatriation
  • Up to S$5,000 for travel cancellation or loss of deposit
  • Up to S$100/day, maximum 14 days for hospitalisation, overseas or upon return to Singapore

Premiums (single traveller, single trip, 10-day duration):

  • First: S$85
  • Business: S$63
  • Premium: S$47
  • COVID-19 benefit add-on: S$41.76

FWD’s COVID-19 travel insurance coverage is slightly different than other travel insurance plans. Its COVID-19 coverage is only available as an optional add-on to the regular Travel Insurance plans.

Nonetheless, FWD’s COVID-19 Enhanced Travel benefit provides up to S$200,000 coverage each for overseas medical expenses and emergency evacuation and/or repatriation.

It also offers a hospitalisation benefit of S$100/day for up to 14 days, should you need to be warded while overseas or upon your return to Singapore.

This COVID-19 add-on also includes a S$5,000 benefit to cover non-refundables in case of travel cancellation or loss of deposit (pre-trip).

Other benefits available through the regular travel plan remain unchanged.

Singlife Travel Insurance

Singlife Travel Insurance includes some helpful benefits to help travellers deal with COVID-19.

These cover four main areas: overseas medical expenses (up to S$200,000), emergency evacuation and/or repatriation (up to unlimited amount, depending on which tier you choose), travel cancellation, interruption or postponement (up to S$2,000) and allowance for overseas quarantine (up to S$2,000, at a rate of up to S$100/day).

In addition to these pandemic-specific benefits, this plan also includes a large and varied selection of travel benefits, such as specific benefits for accidental dental expenses, domestic pet care during your period of travel, and even loss of frequent flyer points.
