Best For Pre-Existing Medical Conditions: MSIG Insurance

Best coverage claim benefits for pre-existing injuries and illnesses.
Be adequately covered for your pre-existing medical conditions when you travel. This is especially important if you are travelling with elderly or on a family trip. At the time of writing, three insurers provide coverage for pre-existing medical conditions: Etiqa, MSIG and NTUC Income. However, take note the premiums are usually 2.5 to 3 times more expensive than regular plans (that don’t cover pre-existing medical conditions). NTUC is the pioneer in this area, whereas MSIG and Etiqa came in later to offer Pre-Ex cover in 2018. We recommend MSIG as they are more thorough about any pre-existing medical conditions, especially during the initial stages of application. This gives travellers a greater sense of comfort they are being covered.

Pros:
  • Pre-existing Medical Condition Cover available (under TravelEasy Pre-Ex Plans)
  • Public Transport Double Cover, Adventurous Activities Benefit (for Elite and Premier Plans)
  • Wedding Clothing and Accessories, Fraudulent Use of Credit Card, Credit Card Benefit Outstanding Balance (for Elite and Premier Plans)
Cons:
  • No benefit claimable for losses of customer loyalty points used to pay for any part of Your Trip
  • Standard Plan (TravelEasy) does not cover certain sub-category of benefits; please refer to the policy document
  • Adventurous Activities/ Golfer’s Cover (not covered under Standard Plan)

Best For Loss of Frequent Flyer Points: Amex Insurance

A fan of Air Miles redemption? You might not know this.
Love using your miles and points to pay for travel and/or accommodation? The bad news for air miles redemption fans is that not all travel insurance plans cover the loss of frequent flyer points in case of delayed or cancelled flights. Allied World, Aviva, Tokio Marine and Amex My VoyageGuard travel insurance plans cover this area. It is stated by Amex: ”the loss of such points cannot be recovered from any other source, the Company will indemnify the Insured Person the retail price for that ticket (or other travel and/ or accommodation expense)”. With this policy wording and the benefit limit range of $5,000 - $20,000 (depending on type of plan choice), we recommend Amex My VoyageGuard Travel Insurance.

Pros
  • Benefit payable for loss of frequent flyer points
  • Winter Sports and Golf option
  • Benefit payable for alternative travel due to Infectious Disease
Cons
  • No cover for pre-existing medical conditions
  • Ski Equipment must be owned by the Insured Person to qualify for Winter Sports benefit payout
  • All Golf Equipment must belong, on loan, or entrusted to the Insured Person, and not hired or rented for payout under Golf Cover.
