Pen cai is a decadent one-pot dish that was elevated from its humble comfort-food origins through the addition of premium seafood such as abalone and sea cucumber, paired with cuts of traditional roast meats.

The restaurant’s audacious creation of Fugu Yu Sheng, dressed up with edible flowers from local boutique farm Petalicious, is an exciting way to take a daring leap into the Year of the Tiger.

This is no mere novelty dish. Fugu, or puffer fish sashimi, is a Japanese dish usually reserved for special occasions. Its inclusion here acts as a Japanese-inspired wish of year-long abundance and happiness.

Also, the medley of fresh, edible flowers accompanying the dish is specially picked to uplift the dish with hints of mango and an aftertaste of Sichuan peppercorn.

If those at home are the adventurous type, ordering this dish should make for an exciting reunion dinner.
