Save more on every Grab ride you take when you pay with these 7 credit cards.

Many Singaporeans take Grab rides daily or at least weekly. Not only are they convenient, but they are fast (usually!), and, most importantly, you can easily book one with a few simple taps on your smartphone.

If you're a serial Grabber, learn to maximise your spending with credit cards. That way, even if you're spending a tidy sum on Grab rides every week, you're still earning – in the form of cashback or miles – something in return.

The first decision to make is whether you prefer cashback, miles or reward points as a form of rebate for each Grab ride. Only then can you figure out what the right credit card is for you.

UOB One Card: Up to 10% rebate on all Grab transactions

UOB One Card

If you're worried about your GrabPay top-ups not contributing to your eligible Grab spend, the UOB One card takes away that headache for you.

Pay with this card and earn an additional 5% rebate on ALL Grab transactions, not just rides!

Rebates for the UOB One card work a little differently: rewards are awarded on a quarterly basis and in a lump sum. This is why most reviews out there will recommend that you try to hit your minimum spend just right, because any amount above that won't earn you more rebates.

There is a different minimum spend required for every month of the quarter to qualify for their different rebate tiers.

Tier 1: If you spend at least S$500/month with a min. of 5 transactions every month for the whole quarter, you'll earn $50 cash rebate for that quarter. This works out to around 3.33%.

Tier 2: If you spend at least S$1,000/month with a min. of 5 transactions every month for the whole quarter, you'll earn $100 cash rebate for that quarter. This also works out to around 3.33%.

Tier 3: If you spend at least S$2,000/month with a min. of 5 transactions every month for the whole quarter, you'll earn $100 cash rebate for that quarter. This works out to around 5%.

When you've hit the minimum spend for these tiers, any Grab transactions charged to your UOB One card will earn you an additional 5% rebate, earning you up to 10% if you're a heavy Grab user.

Alternatively, get up to 20% enhanced cashback on daily favourites (i.e., DFI Retail Group, Grab, McDonald’s, Shopee Singapore and SimplyGo) when you successfully apply for the UOB One Credit Card. Enhanced cashback will be capped at S$100 per month for the first quarter. Valid till 31 October 2024. T&Cs apply.

UOB Lady's Card: Earn up to 10 miles per dollar

uob-ladys-card

Previously, the UOB Lady's card netted you a whopping 6 miles per S$1 (15 UNI$ per S$5) spend on Grab rides, provided that Transport is selected as your preferred category at the start of every quarter.

[Update!] But now, this bonus miles earn rate has since reverted to its original 4 mpd rate (10 UNI$ per S$5) – with the exception that when paired with the UOB Lady's Savings Account, you can earn an additional 6 mpd (15 UNI$ per S$5) on your preferred category. Essentially, that's a total of 10 mpd on Grab rides alone!

Other bonus categories include beauty & wellness, dining, entertainment, family, fashion, and travel. And despite its name, the UOB Lady's card is also available for men to apply.

However, do note that the bonus miles earn rate is capped at S$1,000 a month and UNI$ are strictly earned in blocks of S$5.

Citi Rewards Card: Earn 4 miles per dollar

CitiRewardsMC

These include popular e-commerce stores such as Shopee, Lazada, and Qoo10, department stores like TANGS, and physical clothing/shoes/accessory stores like ShopSassyDream, Beyond The Vines, and more.

Do note that 10X Rewards is capped at 9,000 Bonus Points per statement month on Qualifying charges made at eligible merchants, while the Base Points have no cap. Thus, you can stand to earn more than 10,000 Rewards Points per month provided that the remaining > 1,000 Points earned are Base Points.

Is it still worth it to use GrabPay?

If you were part of the GrabPay hype train when Grab seemingly took over our online marketplace ecosystem by storm, virtually (no pun intended) every transaction could be paid with using the GrabPay wallet

In fact, Grab was so successful in expanding its business prospects that they even unveiled their own GrabPay Mastercard that works just like a debit card. It's connected to users' GrabPay wallet and enables you to tap and pay without relying on scanning QR codes.

But with all the nerfs in the recent years, Grab's monopoly on the market has since loosened its grip. From the GrabPay Card only earning 0.3% point rebate on F&B to insurance premiums being rejected, it's been a rollercoaster of a ride. So if you ask us, you're better off using one of these credit cards – along with their credit card promo code – on your next Grab ride to earn more cashback or miles on your commutes.
