What are the safety precautions in place at movie theatres?
As of 13 October 2021, there are a couple of safety measures that have been put in place by the authorities. These include:
- All cinema halls will adopt a one-metre all-round safe distancing seat configuration.
- To prevent overcrowding, a maximum of 1,000 patrons are allowed into a cinema hall at any time. This is subject to the size of the hall and if safe distancing measures are met.
- All adult patrons have to be fully vaccinated (at least two weeks after taking your second vaccination). The only exception is for:
- Up to two children* who live in the same household.
- The number of children* permitted is capped at 20% of the total number of patrons allowed in each hall. For example, a cinema hall that can sit 100 patrons can only allow for up to 20 children*.
- You are allowed to watch movies in groups of no more than two without the one-metre safe distance seat configuration. Even if you are watching with your family and live in the same household, you will have to be split into groups of two.
- You have to keep your face mask on at all times, even inside the cinema hall. The only exception is when you are consuming food or drink.
*Children refer to those aged 12 years old and below, born in and after 2009.
Can I consume food and drinks during the movie?
Yes, you are allowed to remove your face mask to consume food and drinks during the movie (yay!). However, you are required to put your mask back on the moment you have finished eating or drinking.
Is it safe to visit a movie theatre?
Movie theaters have stepped up their cleaning and disinfecting efforts to ensure that their premises remain COVID-19 free. In addition, cinema staff undergo mandatory swab tests to ensure that they do not carry and spread the virus.
However, there are some extra measures that you can adopt to protect yourself as well. These include:
- Keep your face mask on at all times and remove it only when you are eating or drinking.
- Choose contactless payment options when purchasing your tickets, food and drinks to cut down on the possibility of transmission.
- Actively maintain safe distance from other moviegoers when at the ticket counter, going into and out of the cinema hall, toilet and other common areas.
- Refrain from touching unknown objects or surfaces. In the event that you do (for example, holding onto the escalator’s handrail or door handles), remember to sanitise your hands right after.
