Burpple, Entertainer and Chope still offer great dining deals. Here’s how to take advantage of them in light of current COVID-19 restrictions.

If you have a habit of dining at restaurants, you’d surely have come across Burpple, Entertainer and Chope - three popular platforms in Singapore known for dining discounts and 1-for-1 F&B deals.

However, with the COVID-19 surge causing yet another round of restrictions on restaurant dining, do these platforms still offer the dining deals we know and love them for?

How do Burpple, Entertainer and Chope work in light of the current regulations? And how can you best use these platforms for savings at your favourite restaurant or eatery

More importantly, saving on your food cost is also a matter of using the right cashback credit card to get some future money back. Be smart about it and look through our comprehensive list of the best cashback credit cards out there.

Burpple: 1-for-1 dining deals and food reviews

After starting out as a social network for foodies to share their reviews and recommendations back in 2015, Burpple has now added Burpple Beyond, a subscription platform that provides dining deals.

These deals take the form of 1-for-1 offers, and are available at over 500 partner restaurants and growing (new partners are added monthly, according to Burpple).

As a member, you’re entitled to a certain number of deals per restaurant - either two for the Lite plan or four for the Premium plan, depending on which you purchase. Memberships are valid for 12 months.

Deals are redeemable before the stated expiry date. Each deal you redeem will require two paying adults, and you may redeem up to four deals (with eight paying adults).

Burpple deals are a one-use affair; they only refresh upon renewal of your membership, or if you decide to upgrade partway through.

Some merchants may, at their discretion, refresh their deals upon expiry, which provides a second chance to sample their food at reduced prices if you missed it the first time round.

Besides the dining savings, Burpple’s secondary benefit is the ability to discover new dining options, thanks to its active community of users who regularly post detailed food reviews.

Entertainer: 1-for-1 deals and 25%-off on lifestyle spends

Entertainer provides a wide range of deals and discounts across a variety of lifestyle categories, including F&B, beauty, fitness and attractions. It also offers hotel deals, which members can access via the Entertainer Getaways site.

Instead of subscribing to a membership that renews periodically, you’ll instead purchase an offer package for the year. Inside this pack is a selection of deals you can use at participating merchants.

Each merchant’s offering is different. For instance, you may find three 25%-off total bill offers at a cafe; while a salad bar has one salad offer and two sandwich offers. Meanwhile, a restaurant may offer three main-course deals.

Besides F&B, there are also deals and discounts for a number of other lifestyle categories, including beauty and spas, health, leisure and attractions.

That’s where things get complex - there are different rules surrounding different types of deals. For example, a 1-for-1 deal may require you to bring along a second paying adult. But at a spa, you may be allowed to enjoy a 1-for-1 deal by yourself, paying full price on the first visit, while getting the second visit free-of-charge.

The pack costs just S$65, and the offers are varied enough such that there are some real savings to be had. However, you may be required to put in a bit of effort to learn the rules and regulations regarding the deals you’re interested in.

Entertainer also includes some features that you may find useful, or more trouble than they're worth. For one, you can add up to four other people in a Family Account, allowing them to make use of the deals in your pack. This is a good way to use up the deals you have no interest in.

Another feature is Smiles and Pings. Smiles is a virtual currency that you earn by completing actions in the Entertainer app. You can use them to buy back one offer from a merchant per year.

You can also use Smiles to redeem Pings, which are a way for Entertainer members to send deals to one another (essentially allowing you to trade your unwanted deals for more deals that you want).

Chope: Takeout deals and food delivery

Chope offers dining discounts at partner eateries, which you can only enjoy via takeout (given the current COVID-19 restrictions on dining-in).

Because of this temporary regulation, you’ll probably only find Chope to be useful depending on whether the restaurants near you are on the platform.

Assuming you can find some interesting ones near you, Chope will help you score some savings in the form of discounts and 1-for-1 deals. All you have to do is to browse ChopeDeals on the website or app, pay for the offer you want and receive an e-voucher, then troop off to the restaurant to show them your voucher.

Some of the offers are pretty good, but be sure to read the terms and conditions carefully so you don’t end up disappointed when you get your food.

Chope also offers deliveries from a selection of restaurants, found under the Delivery tab.

Most require a minimum order and charge a delivery fee, but eateries aren’t limited by distance or zoned off, so you’ll have a wider selection beyond the ones populating your FoodPanda or Deliveroo app.

Should you choose Burpple, Entertainer or Chope?

Burpple: Fuss-free dining savings

With its low subscription fees and straightforward model, Burpple Beyond offers you a fuss-free way to save on meals.

There’s no limit on how many eateries you can visit, so you can work your way through every restaurant on the platform, if you’re so inclined.

However, because you only have a limited number of deals you can use at each place, you should make sure that you have easy access to a reasonable number of restaurants you’re keen on before signing up.

Entertainer: Wide-ranging savings on F&B and more

Entertainer’s sheer range of offers makes it a good platform if you want to save money not just on F&B, but also beauty, spas, wellness and other lifestyle categories.

So if you find that most of the offers appeal to you, you probably won’t regret purchasing a deal package.

Just be sure to read carefully the different terms and conditions for each offer. You should also track down fellow users to trade deals via the Pings system to maximise the value of your purchase.

Chope: Consistent savings on nearby eateries

Chope works well for consistent savings on the few restaurants you regularly indulge in, as there’s no limit to the number of times you can make use of an offer. However, these deals only apply for takeout, so do consider the logistics.

There’s also no membership fee or subscription charge, so there’s no sunk value that you have to make up for.

The restaurant deliveries are pretty costly, so you might want to reserve those for special occasions and family get-togethers.

Remember to maximise your spending on these dining deals with the right credit card. Every dollar you save can go to your next meal. Apply for the best cashback credit card through our simple comparison tool and you could get rewarded with cash or attractive prizes!*
