1. Best Credit Card for Groceries: Citi Cash Back Visa Card

Groceries are among the most common spending categories among Singaporean families so it makes sense to have a dedicated credit card for this.

The Citi Cash Back Visa Card offers 8% cashback on all your grocery bills - the highest among all credit cards. However, the maximum cashback per statement month is $25, which means you’ll be reaping maximum savings as long as your grocery spending doesn’t exceed $320.

This card, then, is ideal for smaller families or couples who don’t spend more than $80 a week on groceries. But even larger families who exceed this cashback sweet zone may enjoy the Citi Cash Back Visa Card’s rebates in dining, petrol and Grab (8% cashback, capped at $25 each category).

However, note that you have to spend $888 per statement month to earn 8% cashback.

If you do a lot of online shopping (excluding groceries and food deliveries), a good way to reap some savings is to shop with the UOB YOLO Card.

This credit card provides generous rebates on your online purchases (fashion, travel, electronics, etc) to the tune of 3% cashback on weekdays, and 8% on weekends!

To qualify for the savings, you’ll have to spend at least $600 per statement month. And the total cashback you can earn is capped at $60 per month.

Despite the rise of e-commerce here, there are those of us who still like doing our shopping in store – where we can see, touch, feel, and smell what we are buying. If this describes you, an ideal shopping credit card for you would be the OCBC Titanium Rewards card.

Why, because this card lets you earn 10x points at your favourite department stores, and also when you purchase shoes, bags, clothes, babies’ and children’s wear, as well as electronics and gadgets.

Need to get something a new pair of Bluetooth headphones but have no time to visit Sim Lim Square? Fret not – make an order online from Lazada, Taobao, or Mustafa (among others) and you’ll earn 10x rewards points too.

And if you’re wondering why the big deal over 10x points, let’s put it this way: 10x rewards points per dollar spent is equivalent to 4 KrisFlyer miles per $1 – that’s an earn rate that exceeds even premium credit cards.

4. Best Credit Card for Big-ticket Purchases: HSBC Advance Credit Card

For those times when you need to spend a couple of thousand dollars at a go, paying attention to your credit card rewards can prove fruitful. You may qualify for savings that you otherwise wouldn’t.

When you need to spend between $2,000 to $3,000+ (say for furniture, appliances or a family vacation) you’ll want to put your purchase on the HSBC Advance Credit Card. If you happen to have an Advance banking account, you can get up to 3.5% rebate across all spends (capped at $125 per month).

(If you don’t have an Advance banking account, you’ll still earn 2.5% rebate as long as your spending in that month exceeds $2,000. Otherwise, you’ll only earn 1.5% rebate. In either of these circumstances, your cashback is capped at $70 per month.)

Notwithstanding the somewhat complicated rebate structure, the HSBC Advance Credit Card provides one of the highest monthly cashback rates on the market ($70, outranked only by the OCBC 365 Card’s $80), rising to an unbeatable $125 for Advance banking customers.

Basically, if you find yourself spending large amounts periodically, this credit card can help you unlock the most value.
