For miles: UOB Lady’s Card / UOB Lady’s Solitaire Card

The UOB Lady’s and UOB Lady’s Solitaire Cards have been all the hype lately, and for good reason. Recently, UOB announced that they will have increased their miles rate from 10X UNI$ per S$5 (4mpd) to 15X UNI$ per S$5 (6mpd) on the category(ies) that you choose.

All other spend earns the base 1X UNI$ per S$5 (2 mpd). You’ll also earn the base rate once you hit the bonus rate spend cap.

UOB Lady’s Card — able to choose 1 category per quarter and has a bonus rate spend cap of S$1,000 per month

UOB Lady’s Solitaire Card — able to choose 2 categories per quarter and has a bonus rate spend cap of S$3,000 per month

Here are the categories offered for these cards:

• Beauty and Wellness — cosmetic stores, drug stores, health and beauty stores
• Fashion — department stores, retail stores and shopping websites that sell clothes, shoes and bags as its main business activity
• Dining — restaurants, fast food restaurants and online food delivery 
• Family — grocery stores and baby & kids stores
• Travel — airlines, hotels & resorts bookings and duty-free stores
• Transport — fuel stations, taxi rides and local commuter transport
• Entertainment — bars, taverns, lounges, cinemas and ticketing servicing providers

Do note that these cards earn you miles in blocks of S$5 per transaction, meaning if you spend S$4.99 you won’t be able to earn any miles on that transaction.

For cashback: CIMB Visa Signature

When it comes to cashback, CIMB Visa Signature takes the cake for grocery shopping. You’ll be able to earn 10% cashback on groceries, alongside other expenses like online shopping, beauty & wellness, pet shops & veterinary services and cruises. 

However, do take note of the S$100 cashback cap per statement month, capped at S$20 per category.

There is a minimum spend of S$800 per statement month to qualify you for the high cashback rate. Otherwise, you’ll only be earning a base cashback rate of 0.2%, without a monthly cap.

For cashback: Citi Cash Back Card

Alternatively, you can also consider the Citi Cash Back Card that has a lower cashback rate but higher cashback cap.

With the Citi Cash Back Card, you’ll be able to earn 6% cashback on all your groceries, with a minimum spend of S$800 and a cash back amount capped at S$80 combined for all categories. This is unlike other cards that limit the cashback cap to each category.

If you don’t meet the minimum spending requirement or exceed the cashback cap, you’ll receive a base cashback of 0.20%.

Pro tip: The bonus cashback is earned for merchants that are categorised as grocery stores or supermarkets, with a Merchant Category Code (MCC) of 411, so be sure to check if the grocery store you’re shopping at has the same MCC.

For Sheng Shiong Online: BOC Sheng Shiong

Whether you’re shopping at Sheng Shiong because it’s just right below your house or you’re waiting for the day you get featured on the Sheng Shiong show and shout ‘bai bei’ together with the audience, BOC has a dedicated card for Sheng Shiog shoppers.

With no minimum spend, you can enjoy 6% cash rebates at Sheng Shiong, be it online or in stores. However, there is a cash rebate cap of S$45 per card account for each billing cycle.

Any other local and overseas spend like dining, transportation and online shopping will entail you to a 1.5% cash rebate. Since the cashback rate for other spend is rather low, this card is only useful if you’re an avid shopper at Sheng Shiong. You’re better off with another card for general expenses.

For Sheng Shiong Online: POSB Everyday Card

Alternatively, the POSB Everyday Card offers a slightly lower cashback rate of 5% when you shop at Sheng Shiong, capped at Daily$30 per month, and requires a minimum spend of S$800 per month.

However, the BOC Sheng Shiong card still reigns as the best card for Sheng Shiong purchases as it offers a higher cash rebate rate and cash rebate cap, making it more worth it.

For Cold Storage Online: UOB One Card

If you’re a big fan of Cold Storage, you’ll be thrilled to know that you can get up to 15% cashback (new to UOB card customers) and up to 10% cashback (existing cardmembers) specifically on Dairy Farm International merchants like Cold Storage, Giant, Marketplace and Jasons.

There are 3 kinds of cashback UOB offers:

• Base cashback (all cardmembers) — 3.33%
• Additional cashback (all cardmembers)— Min. S$500 / S$1,000 spend, capped at S$100 per month
• Enhanced cashback (new-to-UOB cardmembers only) — Min S$2,000 spend, capped at S$100 per month for the first 2 quarters

The quarterly cashback you earn depends on how much qualifying spend you satisfy each month — S$500, S$1,000 or S$2,000 per month, with a minimum of 5 transactions per statement month.

This means that when you shop at Cold Storage online or offline, you will earn an additional 5% cashback in quarterly cash rebates as long as you’re a new-to-UOB cardholder applying for the UOB One card.

For RedMart: POSB Everyday Card

If you’re looking to earn points, the POSB Everyday Card ranks as one of the top contenders, and it also has a dedicated rewards section for RedMart.

For groceries, you’ll receive up to 5% cash rebates merchants like RedMart and Sheng Shiong. 

However, you’ll have to spend a minimum of S$800 every month to earn the maximum rebates. There is also a cap of S$30 POSB Daily$ per calendar month, capped at S$15 per category.

Here are other categories you can earn cash rebates on:

• Up to 10% cash rebates on online food delivery at foodpanda, Deliveroo and WhyQ
• 3% cash rebates on other dining spend
• 5% cash rebates on utility bills
• 5% cash rebates on public transport (SimplyGo)
• 3% cash rebates at Watsons, Pet Lovers Centre
• 0.3% cash rebates on all other spend
• 5% cash rebates on online shopping
• 8% cash rebates at POPULAR physical & online stores
• 3% cash rebates on phone bills
• Up to 20.1% fuel savings at SPC

For FairPrice Online: TRUST Credit Card 

As one of the newer kids on the block, the TRUST Credit Card has definitely kicked up a storm by offering highest rates in the market, in terms of points. If you’re a heavy shopper at FairPrice, you should be all ears.

You can enjoy up to 21% Linkpoints on groceries and food at FairPrice Group when you spend on their credit card, as long as you download the Trust App. However, the rewards and minimum spend depend on whether you’re an NTUC Union member. 100 Linkpoints = S$1 redemption.

NTUC Union members:

• Up to 21% savings on FaiPrice Group purchases
• S$350 monthly anywhere outside FairPrice Group

Non-NTUC Union members:

• Up to 15% savings on FaiPrice Group purchases
• S$450 monthly anywhere outside FairPrice Group

There is also a S$960 cap worth in Linkpoints (96,000 Linkpoints) on bonus points per month that you can earn, regardless of whether you’re an NTUC Union member or not.

Do take advantage of these rates fast, as TRUST bank has stated that this rate is a promotional offer, and the 21% rate may be revised to 14% after 31 May 2023.
